Sydney Newborn Photography – FAQ

Choosing in-home newborn sessions means avoiding the hassle of packing bags or worrying about forgetting anything. I often receive questions regarding my Sydney newborn photography sessions, so I’ve gathered the most common ones to help put your mind at ease.

When is the best time for our newborn session?

The best time to capture newborn photos is within the first two weeks. During this period, babies tend to be sleepier, more flexible, and easier to settle for photography. However, with over 10 years as a newborn photographer, I’ve got lots of experience and I’m super comfortable working with newborn babies up to 5-6 weeks old.

When should I book my Sydney Newborn Photography session?

During your pregnancy is the best time to book your session. I will put your due date tentatively into my diary and we go from there. Once the baby arrives, we’ll pick a specific day for the following week.
If you haven’t booked in advance and your baby is already here, feel free to reach out. I might have some last-minute openings available for you.

Where and when do the newborn sessions take place?

I capture newborn sessions in the comfort of your home, usually in the living room. I currently serve Sydney’s Northern Beaches and nearby suburbs. Feel free to reach out with your specific location, and we can arrange a session that’s convenient for you.
I’ll bring in all the necessary equipment and backdrops. Your home does not have to be fancy or perfectly tidy. We can capture all the photos using my backdrops exclusively, or if you prefer, we can also optionally take some pictures by a window, on a bed, or on a couch.
All my newborn sessions take place in the mornings with a 9 am start, as babies are usually a lot more settled in the mornings.

What can I expect during our in home photography session?

On average, newborn photo sessions typically last around 3 hours, and we make sure to go at the baby’s pace. We allow time for cuddling and feeding as needed. First, I take pictures with the whole family – mum, dad, and siblings together with the new baby. Then, we focus on just the baby. We use soft blankets and add cute wraps, some hats, and headbands. All the poses are comfy for the baby.

Who can take part in the newborn photography session?

Each package comes with sibling and family photos, and I warmly invite grandparents to join for a special photo with the grandchild. If you feel your pet would be at ease and it’s safe for the newborn, we may include them in the photo as well. Typically, all group family photos are taken at the beginning of the session.

What should we wear?

When deciding what to wear for your photo shoot, choose white or neutral-colored clothing to keep things simple and elegant. While dressing up for family photos can be fun, it’s best to avoid office shirts and formal dresses for newborn sessions. Instead, go for a relaxed, comfortable look that enhances the cozy, homely vibe of the shoot.

When will we get to see our pictures from a newborn session?

The editing process typically takes 2-3 weeks. Your images will be delivered fully edited and in high resolution. Most of our clients opt to print their images themselves. However, if you need advice on achieving the best print quality or would like to order prints through me, that option is available for an additional fee. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

What is your photography style?

I love working with natural and light tones, using minimal props to keep things simple and elegant. My style combines a mix of posed and unposed portraits to create a natural and timeless look. I love capturing the natural beauty of the baby just as they are. While props like baskets can be available upon request, they’re completely optional for your session.
