Thoughts on newborn photography?

Does anyone have regrets about getting a newborn baby shoot or not getting newborn photography? This is a question you can often hear from the expecting mums.

If I were told that all my personal photos would be lost forever and I could only keep one, I would choose a photo of my child as a baby.

But I would be torn between choosing a newborn photo and a bit older baby’s portrait. In an ideal world, I would recommend doing 2-3 professional photo shoots during the first baby’s year. Once your little baby is not a baby anymore you will miss that time. Photography is all we have to help us to relive those beautiful moments.

There are lots of treasured moments and amazing people in our lives – childhood memories, our parents, best friends, loved ones, traveling, adorable pets, amazing sunrises we witnessed, wedding vows… But nothing can compete with the love for your children.

I am a professional photographer myself and obviously I value beautiful and quality photos. Surprisingly, it does not mean that my own family has their photos taken very often. However, there are a few occasions in life where I believe professional photography is necessary. The first one would be a wedding, as you would like to go back to that happy day many times. Another one would be welcoming a new baby into a family.

From the moment you found out you were expecting, you’ve been dreaming about your baby—the tiny toes, little fingers, button nose, and beautiful eyes. And now, your baby is finally here. In just a few short years, your tiny baby will grow into a little person, full of personality and independence. You’ll find yourself longing to hold your baby again, just one more time. Your photographs will be your time machine, taking you back to those precious moments and letting you feel them all over again.

Having a newborn baby shoot done is special. Our babies are only that small for so long.
Every mum I’ve talked to has said they were so glad they did it.
“I thought about if I looked back and didn’t get newborn pics, how would I feel? I knew I would regret not having it. It’s a fleeting time with your baby!”
“It is expensive, but I have never regretted getting them done. I love the photos so much.”
“I feel like that newborn session is something that I will want to have and cherish forever.”
