Newborn photography session with a fussy baby

Not long ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a sweet baby girl for her in-home newborn photo shoot Sydney. The baby was a bit fussy and had trouble settling down, which is totally normal for some newborns.

Her mum, who was extremely tired from all those sleepless nights, told me she didn’t have the energy to be in any family photos. She just wanted a few lovely professional shots of her baby, even though mum was worried about how it would go with her little one being so unsettled. Although I usually encourage new parents to be in at least a few family photos with the newborn, sometimes it just doesn’t happen, and that’s perfectly okay.

The newborn photo shoot began with the baby being a bit restless. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in newborn photography, it’s that patience is key. We took our time, allowing plenty of breaks to comfort and soothe her, and gradually, I managed to ease her into a few cute poses. It took a bit of time, but that’s all part of the process of newborn photography.

When I look back at the photos, I’m amazed at how peaceful and content she looks. You’d never guess she started off so fussy! Her mum was thrilled that we captured such sweet moments despite the initial challenges.

Sometimes, when a baby is unsettled during a newborn session, we might end up with a bit less variety in poses. But that’s perfectly okay! The most important thing is capturing those precious moments, even if it means focusing on just a few serene and natural poses. Every baby is different, and it’s all about working with their comfort level to create beautiful images that reflect their unique personality. What matters most is that we capture those sweet, genuine moments, no matter how many poses we get through.

Usually it just takes a little extra time and patience to find those perfect moments. And that’s perfectly okay! Even when things start off a bit rocky, we usually manage to turn it around and capture those beautiful, heartwarming images that parents will cherish forever.
