When is the best time for newborn photos?
Photoshoot for newborn baby ideally would be done within the first 1-2 weeks after the birth, when your baby is tiny and new. Younger newborns are generally more predictable, they sleep longer and less fussy when being posed or when being changed from one outfit to another. Newborns between weeks 1 and 2 are still in a womb-like state, and this makes it easier to replicate in those cute, closely bundled poses.
If you’re thinking about booking a newborn photoshoot, you’ve probably noticed that most photographs you see are of sleeping babies. You might be wondering why this is, and whether it’s possible to have a newborns photo session if your little one is awake. The reality is that during the early weeks babies will only be awake for short periods of time, usually when they are hungry and ready for a feed. Awake newborns are wriggly and often unsettled which make them hard to pose for any photos.
Those are the reasons why newborn photographers typically capture most of the shots whilst the babies are asleep. If your baby happens to have a short period of time where they are awake and settled, I always try to take some pictures of them with their eyes open.

In order to make this ideal two weeks window, you’ll definitely want to book your session long before your baby is born. This is the best way to rest assured a slot.
After the first couple of weeks your baby is becoming more alert, so they can become harder to settle.
However it is not always possible for many reasons to have your session under 2 weeks old though, and that shouldn’t mean you can’t still get gorgeous newborn photos with slightly older babies. I’m experienced and comfortable to work with older newborns, under 6-7 weeks old. You may expect a bit less variety of curled-up posed images at that stage, but we would be able to capture some beautiful natural style portraits. Timeless family portraits are great with babies of any age.

A photoshoot for newborn baby is typically scheduled for around a few hours to give the baby a chance to fall asleep and to allow for breaks to be fed, changed, and comforted. You will need to feed baby and maybe change a nappy or two whilst I’m there. I come to your place for your newborn photo shoot is so that gives you the comfort of being at home.
No one baby is the same as another, every baby is different. Every photo session is unique. I would love to meet you and your little one and help you to capture those special memories in photographs that filled with light, love and emotion.
